Wow............3 days and counting till we leave for Vegas!

I finished my shopping, laundry and some packing today. Got a pedicure and I am doing my hair tonight.

I finally got the right color for it.  Those of you who have seen me lately, know I have had a bad time with my hair the past few months. In spring I usually lighten my hair and put in highlights. Well I got the wrong color (I  saw the red on the box and "totally" missed the mahoghony part. Plus one of the highlights was put on too thick, so I looked like an Irish skunk.
A month later I actually paid 100 bux to have it all lightened, cut and highlighted correctly. Well the girl didn't mix the right color and it came out darker than when we started and the highlights weren't right either. So that time I ended up looking like Morticia Adams on steroids.
This time I am doing it myself.........lets hope for the best.
I made hamburgers the other night. Our neighbor Jack grilled them for us and we ate at my friend Nells. I used my simple recipe that the kids always loved. I will post it after this.
Well thats it for today. I'll let you know the "hair" results tomorrow.

July 5th 2010

We all lived thru the 4th without the kids in this town burning it down, but according to the news today they did try. God bless our firemen and police force.
I used the clippers to trim down Bear today, he now looks like a barber on meth got hold of him. But he also looks a bit cooler.
Five days and counting till the Vegas trip.
I'll keep you posted

July 4th, 2010. Another summer half gone, and I still havn't had the heart to get in a bathing suit. I am at the point in my life and weight where I look better naked than in a bathing suit. Naked everything just hangs, but put it in spandex and it all bunches, balls and rolls.
One week from now we will all be on the road to Vegas. We are going to visit mom and dad. They can no longer travel comfortably, so we are going to them.
Myself, my daughter Lea, my son Michael, the redneck (my son-in-law Mike) and all six grandkids in a 15 passenger van. Its going to be National Lampoons Vacation, redneck style.
I will be doing this like a journal each day. Pray for us that we have a safe trip and no one kills anyone else. I don't usually drink but I am making an exception for this trip. It will be loads of fun, and educational and fun for the kids. Thats my mantra, LOL
Thats it for now. Happy 4th of July, more tomorrow.

I remember when the words "bail out" meant lets keep the boat from filling with water. Now it means someone played loosely with a lot of money that wasn't theirs, and after costing millions of dollars in lost revenue and jobs, they are "rewarded" with the "bail out", which is millions of dollars of government money. (In constitutional terms that means we the peoples money.) Now a few questions from this old dino:

1-- If "we the people" own the major part of a number of corporations, when can we expect our dividend checks?

2-- If "Joe Normal" had lost that much money for any company,he would be without a job right now, and possibly in jail. Why are these men getting billions of dollars in bonuses?

I will leave you with one last thought.
There are 535 congressmen and senators who "we the people" are paying to pass bills to protect and serve the approx. 307 million of us who the constitution was penned to protect......do you really feel protected and served?

Did You Know?

DID YOU KNOW?
That the average interest on a savings account,is 1% or less, yet that same bank will loan out your money and charge a "lenders interest" of 17%to 21%.

That a new born puppy is a "psychological blank slate", and that by the time they are 6 months old they will have learned most of what they will learn in their lives personality wise. Also by six months they "should have learned to sit, stay,be quiet, fetch and be completely housebroke. Science tells us that a baby is born a " psychological blank slate" and that their personality is formed by the time they reach age six. How many children do you know who by age six, let alone six months will actually behave on command?(Throw out Dr Spock and pick up a "puppy housebreaking"manual....can't hurt!)

That the person you hear on the "lawyers" commercial saying :I'm free, I'm free, is going to cost you the money they owed and a "lawyer" helped them NOT to pay. These businesses have to make up the losses somehow, so if the deadbeats don't pay, you get the bill in higher prices at the registers. There really is no such thing as a free lunch!

Blueberry recipe contest

My oldest grandaughter Emmy and I came up with these biscuits. They taste like a cross between a blueberry bagel and blueberry muffin. And they are super easy and quick!

Blueberry Citrus Biscuits
1 cup self rising flour
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup frozen blueberries
3/4 cup milk
1 tsp. lemon extract

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Cream shortening and sugar. Stir in flour. Stir in milk and lemon extract, making sure all is blended well.Lastly add in the blueberries.Give the dough (should be moist without being sticky)a few good kneads on a floured surface, and then roll the dough to a 1/2 inch thick. Cut into biscuits, and place on an ungreased pan.Bake for 15-20 minutes (all ovens are different)
A few hints:
1- once you add the liquid, be gentle. roughing it up at this point will only make the biscuits tough.
2-Place leftover (if there are any) biscuits in a bread bag. Will last several days.
3- I double the recipe, and place half of the raw biscuits on a sheet pan, cover it with a towel and place in the freezer for several hours. After they are frozen place in a zip lock freezer bag. They last up to a month in the freezer this way. Preheat oven to 400 degrees, place frozen biscuits on an ungreased pan, and bake for 20-25 minutes. They taste fresh baked because they are!

Eat well and be happy!
